Hotel Review: Manhattan Business Hotel, Damansara (Malaysia) – Where to Stay

Damansara Perdana is an uptrend area situated near Mutiara Damansara which houses Ikea Malaysia, The Curve, Ikano Power Centre and e@Curve. This is also an area where new upscale hotels like Marriott and office towers mushrooming with architectural designs befitted the current era. Since Damansara Perdana is not near any public rail system, it is advisable for people who has meetings or businesses or even are in the area for leisure to stay in a hotel situated in the town itself. One of the hotels that I want to recommend is the Manhattan Business Hotel.

As its name suggests, Manhattan Business Hotel applies New York’s Manhattan themes in its concept. From the outside, it looks like apartments in Manhattan with Broadway-style font. Going in, the concept is applied in its deco and the many posters hanged on the wall of the hotel.

I jokingly told my wife:

Tak dapat pergi Manhattan betul-betul, duduk sini pun jadilah! (Since we can’t visit the real Manhattan yet, staying overnight here is still considered as staying in Manhattan!)”. She smiled. I interpreted the smile as “but I still want to go to the real Manhattan!”

CHECKING IN

Upon entering its wide doors, I was greeted by the friendly receptionist who gave me the key to my room and explained to me that free breakfast will be provided the next morning at the attached café. Yes, the hotel has its own café called as the Ninth Espresso Café. Free breakfast has limited menu but since it is a full fledge café, guests can also buy the many food and beverage items available there.

CONCEPT

The hotel has six floors and all the floors are styled as the famous parts in Manhattan – Madison Square Garden for Level 1 (where I was staying), Central Park for Level 2, Wall Street for Level 3, 5th Avenue for Level 5 and Broadway for Level 6. There is no Level 4 and I believe that this is due to the fact that the Chinese despise No. 4 as bringing bad luck.

ROOM

As I entered the room, I was shocked to see the size of the room. It was so small that there was so little space left for me to put my luggage. There was a hint of cigarette smell too. However, the small room was compensated with a very comfortable bed, a very nice view with large windows and a bathroom full with toiletries. There were also safety deposit and wardrobe. In fact, for those staying here for business, they can come and bring only their documents and clothes since the bathroom is fully stocked with soaps, body wash, shampoo, comb and hair dryer. The power shower was also – as its name suggests – powerful. That night, my wife and I had a very good night sleep.

BREAKFAST

The next day, we went to the café downstairs for the breakfast. I chose eggs and toasts. Though simple, it tasted really good. My wife chose nasi lemak and it was good too. We went back to the room after breakfast to continue our rest and watched TV as it was raining heavily outside. The TV was large for a room that size but there were many channels available including sports, news and movies. I had no problem changing channels to kill some time before checking out on that day.

If you happen to have business deals around the area or is around the corner to shop at Ikea and is too tired to drive back home, maybe try and spent a night at this hotel. At least you can tell your friends that you have stayed in Manhattan!
