Some people might like and fall in love with the city of Kota Bharu in Kelantan, Malaysia. Some people might even migrated there if given the chance. But not for me. I have many reasons to hate Kota Bharu. I could put up a list on the reasons and it will never end. Today, I will share four main reasons on why I hate Kota Bharu.
REASON 1: NASI KUKUS SURIANI
The first reason is because it has one of the best nasi kukus (steamed rice) stalls ever and the stall opens until night time. How can I not be angry when I got to eat Nasi Kukus Suriani at 9.30 pm, with delicious curry and petai, annnnnnnnd not to forget the yummylicious fried chicken. I should be angry with them because they made me eat before I go to sleep. It is located at Jalan Hospital, off Jalan Stadium, Kota Bharu.
REASON 2: NASI ULAM CIKGU
I sweat easily. I am not sure, maybe because of my weight or because of living in a tropical country, I sweat a lot and easily. Because of this, I really hate Nasi Ulam Cikgu for making me sweat faster and more than usual. Just imagine, recently, I went there for lunch and I took a kampung chicken together with some ulam (raw vegetables). Being in Kelantan, I tried the budu (Kelantanese said budu is a must if I want to act like locals) and I squeezed some lime juice, put some mango slices and some bird’s eye chilli into the small plate. Guess what? As soon as I dipped the ulam in the budu and put it inside my mouth, I sweat profusely. So, tell me? What is there not to hate about Nasi Ulam Cikgu which is located at Jalan Hilir Kota, Kampung Kraftangan, Kota Bharu?
REASON 3: KST IKAN BAKAR, WAKAF CHE YEH
I really hate KST Ikan Bakar. First, they have many outlets all over Kota Bharu, confusing outsiders like me on which one is to choose from. Then, they have many big-sized fresh fish which they will then grilled together with the sambal, causing me to sweat further, even at night. They even have other types of seafood which can be cooked in any manner that we want, thus causing me to eat further. Lastly, they even have a whole row of ulam and many types of sambal for patrons to choose from. Come on, who wants to eat ulam for dinner?! Yes, me! Oh my, they really spoiled my diet and I should hate them for that. If you do not believe me, you can go and visit KST Ikan Bakar at Wakaf Che Yeh. I am sure that you will agree with me.
These 5 food will make you hate Kota Bharu even more!
REASON 4: TAK BAI, THAILAND
I really hate Kota Bharu for this. Yes, I know Tak Bai is in Thailand but it is just a mere 27 km away from Kota Bharu. It is so cheap to cross the border on foot to the extent that my parents decided to visit Tak Bai just for lunch. You can check my post on that here. Despite the slow economic growth, Tak Bai still attract Malaysians to spend there just because of its short distance away from Kota Bharu. So, Malaysians will all ended up eating that spicy Tom Yam and I will be left miserable, sweating all over. Pfft. Oh, and that creamy coconut ice cream? Yes, expect my waistline to expand further.
So, I hope that by now, you all will understand the very reasons why I hate Kota Bharu so much.
Love it? Pin it!
Have you tried any of the above? What do you think?
If you have four reasons for hating Kota Bharu, then I already have 10!
These four are the major ones. If I were to list them all, it will never ends! 😄
